East Idaho, ID — The Wall of Warmth, a grassroots community project dedicated to keeping East Idahoans warm during the harsh winter months, returns for its eighth season. This year, the project carries a special note—founder and local realtor Valorie Blanchard has announced that 2025 will be her final year leading the beloved initiative.
Valorie launched the Wall of Warmth in 2017 with a simple idea: make it easy for people to give and receive warm winter clothing—no strings attached. What began with a single wall and a handful of coats has now expanded into nine locations across seven East Idaho communities, with a goal of collecting over 9,000 coats this season.
“Starting this project was one of the most rewarding decisions of my life,” said Blanchard. “Over the years, I’ve seen some truly touching moments—people helping neighbors, strangers looking out for one another. It’s reminded me how strong and compassionate our community really is.”
The Wall of Warmth is more than just a place to give or take a coat. It has become a symbol of community strength, powered by volunteers, local partners, and everyday residents who care. Valorie has worked closely with the Hall Foundation, JustServe, Streamline Chiropractic, and numerous local businesses to make it all possible.
Community members can donate clean, gently used coats and winter gear (including hats, scarves, gloves, and snow pants) from October 13 to November 18 at over 60 drop-off sites throughout East Idaho. The donated items will then be sorted and hung on outdoor fences from November 10 to 21 in cities including Pocatello, Blackfoot, Shelley, Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg, St. Anthony, and Driggs.
“If you need a coat, take one. If you have a coat, please donate,” Blanchard added. “That’s always been the heart of this project.”
As Valorie steps down, she’s also issuing a call for someone to carry the Wall of Warmth forward in the years ahead. “I know the right person is out there—someone who loves this community and wants to keep this mission going. I’ll support them every step of the way.”
